Welcome to Shotokan Karate Center

Sensei CovertThe Shotokan Karate Center is a school of discipline for all populations training in this traditional Japanese art.  We pursue excellence in our teaching methods which are up to date and current with Shotokan karate in Tokyo, Japan today.

Over the years of training and hard work, we know firsthand how karate helps to promote confidence, builds strong character, increases one’s concentration, commitment and dedication, leading to one’s success in life.  Furthermore karate is a holistic approach to overall health and fitness working on components of muscular endurance, flexibility, and core training.  Karate covers aerobic and anaerobic exercises that most anyone can do.

Over the years Sensei Covert has focused on refining her discipline of study.  Jinjer Covert has been active in the martial arts for over 25 years.  She currently trains with the Japanese Karate Association (JKA) and some of the top instructors from Japan throughout various conferences in the United States.  She is a member of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill Shotokan Club working under JKA instructor, Sensei Kent Wang.  As one of her endeavors, she plans on training at the JKA Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan off and on over the next few years.

Jinjer Covert has a Master’s Degree in Physical Education.  She promotes the understanding of such topics as Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology, and Motor Learning when teaching  her students.  Students will develop powerful karate techniques such as kicking, punching, blocking, striking, throwing, and sweeping; in addition to teaching timing, rhythm, power and speed, preventing injuries via use of proper body mechanics.

The Shotokan Karate Center strives in creating a positive training environment, giving the students a well-rounded base needed in the martial arts arena. Students will be encouraged to develop as a serious martial artist as well as a competitor. The martial arts not only make winners in the ring, it makes winners in life as well.
